Tekken 8, the latest entry in Bandai Namco’s storied fighting franchise, is closing out Year 1 Season with an unexpected yet thrilling addition: Clive Rosfield, the protagonist of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XVI. This crossover marks a significant addition for both series, blending Tekken’s hard-hitting martial arts combat with Clive’s dynamic swordsmanship and elemental powers born from the crystals of Valisthea.

As announced at The Game Awards, Clive will be added to the game on December 16th and will be available as part of the game’s season pass, which also included Eddy Gordo, Lidia Sobieska, and Heihachi Mishima.

Clive not only brings his sword but also a unique style unlike anything in Tekken’s traditional focus. He incorporates sword strikes and magical abilities into his moveset. Tekken saw the inclusion of Noctis, the protagonist of Final Fantasy XV, joining the roster as a DLC alongside his home stage. Many fans were hoping for Tifa Lockhart to be included; many were taken by surprise with Clive being the choice.

Visually, it’s exciting that Tekken 8 is willing to explore another Final Fantasy character but one that has a flair for dramatics with his maneuvers. Especially curious about how Tekken’s deep combo system and juggling mechanics will blend with Clive’s move set. By adding Clive Rosfield, Tekken 8 not only appeals to longtime fans eager for new play styles and guest characters but also extends a hand to a fresh audience.

Clive Rosfield will arrive in the King of Iron Fist Tournament 72-hour early access on December 16th for Character Year 1 Pass owners and on December 19th. Clive will also be accompanied with a new stage called Phoenix Gate that implements elements of Final Fantasy XVI into it background and interactive environments.
