Prey takes the Predator franchise into a new direction.
There’s plenty to look forward to for the fifth Predator movie. For one it isn’t relying on an Alien crossover, the time period in which the film takes place, 1719. That could be considered as a nod to Predator 2 when the Elder handed Danny Glover‘s Mike Harrigan a pistol from 1715. However, the most interesting element the movie-goers will look forward to is the actually showdown between the Predator and a human that doesn’t rely on guns or advanced technology. The film also touches on the aspect of who is hunting and who is being hunted. Love when a film can make the audience think for a moment instead of always holding their hands throughout the film.
One more interesting aspect is to the Predator character himself. It’s the actual Predator costume on the set of the film. Prey director, Dan Trachtenberg opened up about making a practical costume for the film,
“Its was a couple of people driving (the mechanisms in the mask.) There are two versions of the face, there was a stunt version that didn’t have any motion, that was a little bit, just a hair safe for Dane (DiLiegro, The Predator) to function. And there was another version that was just heavier on Dane because it has all the animatronics in it. And one of the things we added in this movie that strangely wasn’t, I don’t think was in the other Predator films, was goop. We brought in some alien goop, the stuff that we’ve seen in the Alien movies. So the mandibles and the face and all that stuff just felt that much more violent and gross.”Director Dan Trachtenberg (Prey) during an interview with Comicbook.com
Here’s the latest poster for the upcoming Prey movie,
Speaking of the costume’s practicality in Prey the actor who steps in the late actor of the first two Predator films, DiLiegro spoke about the costume as well,
“It’s interesting, you know you’re not just a guy in a monkey suit. (They) did a tremendous job building the suit, but you slide in and you’re not human anymore, you’re invincible and you’re this trophy hunter from another planet and you kind of transform into that and it’s all that history and, Kevin Peter Hall (late actor from the first two Predator movies) and following in his footsteps was an incredible experience for me. Like I said before, still sinking in, I still can’t believe it.”Dane DiLiegro (Prey) during an interview with Comicbook.com
Prey will star Amber Midthunder, Dane DiLiegro featuring, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush and Julian Black Antelope. Prey will be released exclusively on Hulu on August 5th, 2022
