Two long decades… FINALLY! The dread has awaken.

There’s no doubt the Nintendo Direct presentation had so many good titles coming out for any gamer to enjoy but the new entry in the Metroid series was announced, Metroid Dread. It’s set to release on October 8th of this year.

In the short trailer, we get a look at protagonist Samus Aran facing off against a giant and terrifying white robot that chasing her throughout the level. You also get a feel for the visuals as it looks to play similarly to the 3DS game Metroid: Samus Returns.

During the Treehouse Live event, we were treated to the return of some mechanics from the Samus Returns such as the melee dash and the new dash counter. Another feature that plays perfectly well to the title is the E.M.M.I enemies that literally take no damage from any of Samus’ weapons. They are very relentless as even jumping on certain platforms will not ensure your escape as they will follow if not damaged too much. However, shown in the event, when you obtain the Omega Blaster cannon you can deal significant damage to the E.M.M.I.

Metroid Dread offers players a different approach unlike many previous titles as you will have to explore the areas to find your way around the level and unlock secrets. There’s a “parma-death” feature that some enemies will kill you in one shot which has never been in any Metroid game prior. With the ominous E.M.M.I on your tail there are three forms that you’ll encounter blue indicates a surveillance, yellow is for scanning last locations of hearing a noise or sensing vibrations and red is when they spot Samus which signals a heart pounding pursue from this new terrifying enemy.

As for Metroid Prime 4, it was acknowledged during the presentation, that the development is still ongoing. It’s safe to assume that the game is nowhere close to being released any time soon. Cross your fingers for E3 2022.
