Zoolander 2: International Trailer & Fashion Changing Poster

Ben Stiller’s “really really ridiculously good looking” male model counterpart Derek Zoolander became a household name in 2001 with the really really ridiculously beloved comedy Zoolander. The film followed Derek as he uncovered the darker – and deadlier – side of the fashion industry along with fellow male model Hansel McDonald (Owen Wilson). Due to the comedy’s success, a sequel was first discussed in 2008, then officially announced in 2010, but it wasn’t until last year that Zoolander 2 really began to move forward.

The sequel made a splash earlier this year when Stiller and Owen crashed a Maison Valentino runway at Paris Fashion Week, and has since revealed a teaser and full-length trailer for the comedy set for release early in 2016. Now, the international trailer for Zoolander 2 features some new and extended scenes from the U.S. version.

Released by Paramount Pictures, the international trailer includes a longer version of the motorcycle chase that ends with Justin Bieber’s death – though not before he posts a photo of him sporting Zoolander’s iconic Blue Steel look. Plus, we see a little more of Derek and Hansel before they come out of retirement to help track down whoever is killing pop stars. We also learn more about Penélope Cruz’s Interpol character, specifically that she is working to overcome her failure to make the leap from swimsuit model to high fashion. Other than those extended/added scenes, though, much of the new trailer seems to be a reordered version of its predecessor.

Stiller not only returned to star in the sequel, he co-wrote the script with Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) and directed Zoolander 2. Others returning for the sequel include Christine Taylor as Matilda Jeffries, an ally and love interest to Derek in Zoolander, and Will Ferrell as Derek’s rival Jacobim Mugatu. Kristen Wiig and Cyrus Arnold join the cast for Zoolander 2 as Alexanya Atoz and Derek Zoolander Jr., respectively. Plus, the sequel will feature a number of celebrity cameos and guest starring roles portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, Joe Jonas, Miley Cyrus, Fred Armisen, Billy Zane, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, among others.

Of course, if the record-breaking response to the first trailer is any indication, fans of Zoolander are excited to see the return of Stiller and Owen to their male model roles of Derek and Hansel. With Ferrell also returning as Mugatu, another mystery that forces the two into the seedy underbelly of the fashion industry and plenty of the same humor fans loved in Zoolander, it’s clear that Zoolander 2 is making a good attempt to hit the sequel mark. But, whether it’s truly successful remains to be seen when Zoolander 2 premieres in theaters early next year.
