When you hear and see these kinds of comments to your music, what goes through your mind?

ColdKid: Shit, amazing. It’s crazy that I started out with a handful of people supporting me, and now I got people from different states messaging me with an appreciation for what I do. I’m no celebrity, but I feel like the man of the hour, knowing people fuck with my movement. It’s crazy to me. The best are those who tell me that I’ve made a difference in their life with my music, y’all never stop with that. It really keeps me going, and I appreciate all of y’all who copped the free tape early.

SPARX: You’ve mentioned your family on many occasions, tell us how your family has been a part of your music?

ColdKid: My family life has always been a big part of my songwriting influence. We’ve been through a lot, and I can only look to God for how grateful I am that we’re still standing as one. I talk a lot about the hard times. Growing up with no food in the house, my Pops having to go to work and donate his blood just to put some food in my stomach. My mom working countless dead-end jobs, only for our electricity to be cut out in the cold of winter. Along with the shit, I put them through trying to escape the hard times. It’s all a big part of the reason I started writing in the first place. Nothing can get to me like the times I’ve had to see my Mother cry when she’s doing all she can to make a better life for myself. That type of shit really ate at me man, so I had to do something about it. I knew I wanted to make them both proud so I took my negatives and made a positive. They stand behind my music 100%. It wouldn’t be possible without them.

SPARX: Can we expect more mixtapes to be release in the remainder of the year? Or maybe could we see a full length-album?

ColdKid: Already in the process of recording Henny & Sprite 2, which is definitely going to top the first one. A lot more collaborations, a lot more versatility on this one, as well as some visuals for it. A full-length album may not be dropping this year, due to the fact I’m really working on the promotion of Homesick and playing shows right now. It’s definitely going to be happening by next year, though, I just wanna take the time and grow even more before I put something as big as an album together. I’m praying that by then, my movement is even stronger, and I’m looking to make the whole world feel me on that next big release. Until then look out for Henny & Sprite 2 and all the shows and Videos we got coming up. A lot of dope ideas being put into motion for everything.

SPARX: “I want to be remembered for my words, and for my music. I’m trying to leave this world with something that can shape a more positive future. Whether it is 10 years after I’m gone, or a century. I want to be the type of artist that people respect for the person I was, and not how much financial success I was blessed with.” – You made it clear this is how you want to be known when YOU want to be remembered. Is 2015 a year that ColdKid will be remembered and excel in?

ColdKid: I can’t promise that 2015 will be the year that I make it, but I can promise that I’m a work like it is. The grind won’t stop until I reach my goal, and as long as my heart stays in it, I know I’ll succeed. 

SPARX: Zach (if you don’t mind us calling you that for the moment) aka ColdKid, you have no idea how much of an honor we have been able to follow you on your journey. Allowing us to know who you are and what you strive for. So we thank you very much for this opportunity and hope we can work together in a multitude of environments. Like we always do for our interviews, is there anything you would like to express to the readers here and the ColdKid fan base?

ColdKid: I just wanna give my thanks to DeShawn and the whole team at Sparx for rocking with me for a whole year now. Y’all the first actual team other than my own to really put your faith in me, and I’m nothin but grateful for that. Shoutout to everybody back home, and all y’all who support what I’m doin’. I hope I make y’all proud with the future, I have planned in this music. I just wanna say Rest In Peace to my Homie Will, who recently passed. You were one of the first to support me, we gonna go crazy for you bro. Anyone interested in my music, let me know man. That shit keeps me movin’. Thank y’all again.
