The idea of a live-action adaptation Bleach always made me cringe as many live-action movies are treated with a completely different story. Now that’s not the case given Warner Bros. Japan producing a live-action Bleach movie coming to theaters in July. The upcoming live-action film is said, to be made for fans of the Manga series as well people who are not familiar with the franchise. Back in 2008, Bleach creator Tite Kubo mentioned that he never wanted a movie version of the famous Manga, but when the development of this movie began he quickly signed on to ensure the Manga would stay faithful to its origins.

In February, fans were treated to the first trailer of the live-action Bleach movie and the reception for it was positive. The trailer not only provided comfort for dedicated fans but also intrigued newcomers who never followed Bleach. Now with all of this and the anticipation mounting for next month’s release, there’s a brand new poster that features Ichigo front and center with Ishida and Rukia behind him. Behind him on both sides are Byakuya and Renji behind him. No signs of Orihime or Chad on the poster, but with Kubo signed onto the project they will definitely play a pivotal part in the movie.

Despite the characters missing from the poster, most fans’ fears have been settled down as it was revealed that both Orihime Inoue and Chad would be portrayed by Erina Mano and Yasutora Sado with Tomo Koyanagi portraying Chad.

Given the basis of the characters involved, the film will focus on Ichigo’s first moments as a Soul Reaper before Byakuya and Renji came to the world of the living to take Rukia back to the Soul Society. In the Bleach franchise, this is known as the Substitute Shinigami arc. From the first announcement, many fans believed this was the direction the movie would go despite some characters missing.

The live-action Bleach film had an instant sell out for the North American screening on July 28th at Japan Cuts: Festival of New Japanese Film at New York’s Japan Society in New York City. However, it’s still unclear when the live-action film will get a worldwide release date, but we must wait. Bleach (Live-action) directed by Shinsuke Sato with Daisuke Habara and Sato having written the script. The film will star, Sota Fukushi, Hana Sugisaki, Ryo Yoshizawa, Erina Mano, Yu Koyanagi, Taichi Saotome, Miyavi, Seiichi Tanabe, Masami Nagasawa, Yōsuke Eguchi.

Bleach will hit theaters in Japan on July 20th, 2018.
