The teens are coming to town to save the day!
The start to the DC Universe has been off to rocky start although Wonder Woman still stands as DC/Warner Bros. top grossing film to-date. Now with the release of DC’s ensemble team of superheroes hitting the big screen this past month, DC Entertainment has released a first look at the Dick Grayson/Robin costume set to be featured in the upcoming Titans live-action series. The first look comes from the executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman and Sarah Schechter.
The actor who will star as Batman’s once trusty sidekick, Dick Grayson is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales actor Brenton Thwaites. He will step forward as the leader of the young hero team which also includes Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy. Each young hero comes from a diverse corner of the DC Universe and tells a story of their own during their time together. Following the first look, DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns had this to say about the vengeful sidekick;
“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans’ future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.”
Before being revealed to be Robin, it was speculated that Thwaites would play Nightwing but with this first look, it doesn’t truly mean that’s out of the question. It could be that Thwaites’ Robin would be featured in flashbacks and Grayson has truly embraced his alter ego. The 1980s series of The New Teen Titans, saw Dick start out as Robin but eventually becoming Nightwing shortly after, this could be the case.
The Robin suit was designed by costume designer Laura Jean Shannon, who also worked on Black Lightning, Iron Man and The Jungle Book just to name a few. So without further delay here’s the first look at Dick Grayson/Robin:
Titans is set to debut in 2018 on the DC-branded direct-to-consumer digital service, operated by Warner Bros. Digital Networks.
