SPARX Features Presents: ‘Leading A Tribe’ A Chief Story

SPARX: When you and Tribe Chillin took a hiatus what was running through your mind about going solo for that period of time?

We were all in that transition stage from like high school to college and or work so we were all trying to figure out what was going on at that moment just taking care of business & adapting! It wasn’t the thought of me going solo but maybe having everyone still do their own thing as we are a group as well. The reason being we realized not all of us could make every show & we didn’t want to restrict ourselves!

SPARX: Rewind to the beginning of 2016, January 19th an official MV for ‘Jumper’ was released by you and FLOW Simpson, produced by WAVE MMLZ. How did the direction of this music video come about and was this your first official music video?

Flow & I knew we had to give the people some type of visual from Blue Moon just to show the people we’re trying to keep moving & keep progressing! It wasn’t my first official video but it was one of the beginning videos! Shouts to Scotty Bara.

SPARX: Is there any inspiration (musically) that helped you begin your career with music? Also, do you consider this your career?

Honestly, when I heard Clouds bars he really made me step my game up as well as my brother Inspiring Thoughts from the TFY Clique! WaveMMLZ was another one he is truly a Polyhistor and keeps me on my toes, such a smart dude! Other music influenced me but when I saw it from people so close to me it really hit home!

SPARX: Towards the middle of 2016, you made a shift in your style. It became a more laid back and methodical approach. You can hear that with the summer release of ‘By Your Side’ (July 24th) & ‘Love Xistz’ (October 13th). Why the shift in style and tone? And will there be more of that Chief in the future?

I was in a life shift at the moment and those two kind of hit me. I’ve always loved “love songs”, instead of writing bitter depressing love songs I thought I should put some good energy and love out to the world. It’s very catchy and vibey so I couldn’t help but drop them! You will probably hear more of this for sure!
