Let the hype begin as a few weeks ago the official title of the second sequel in the Force Awakens trilogy was revealed. Now we have brand new behind-the-scenes photos from director Rian Johnson. The photos come courtesy of Johnson’s Tumblr account being the first set photo we’ve seen of the movie since shooting wrapped in June. Along with the photos, he shares some exciting news coming in two months time.

“We’re coming to Orlando for a Star Wars Celebration panel on April 14th, and I cannot wait. See you there!”

—Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Director)

Rian Johnson and producer Kathleen Kennedy will be headlining the Star Wars 8 panel at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. The finally touches are being put together on the movie as Star Wars: The Last Jedi is well into post-production with a rough cut having screened for Disney executives. Along with this piece of news, we get the first look of the First Order Stormtroopers.

THE FIRST ORDER’S HOME BASE

There’s no denying that since the revival of featured Star Wars films, Disney has been keeping information about Star Wars: The Last Jedi a secret. However, there have been a few interesting snippets of information from time to time.  We last left off Star Wars: The Force Awakens with Rey (Daisy Ridley) finding Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), handing off his lightsaber. The events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi will pick up immediately at that point but on a different note we didn’t gather much about the First Order. From reports in Making Star Wars, Editor-in-Chief Jason Ward states sources about a new planet making an appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi which may serve as the home base for the First Order.

“In Star Wars: Episode VIII we should see the greens of Ahch-To, a Dubrovnik/casino planet, a planet described to us as “Mars with snow on it”, and the interiors and exteriors spaceships. Those are the locations awe have had confirmed filming for and there could always be more.”

—Jason Ward (Editor-in-Chief, Star Wars/Disney)

According to those sources to Ward that “snowy Mars” planet was described like, “the interiors were not unlike Starkiller Base in the sense that you can see the Death Star-style tech and architecture blending in with the rocks and natural environment.” I do hope we finally get to see Supreme Leader Snoke in his physical presence rather a hologram especially if this snowy Mars-like planet is the base

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is directed and written by, Rian Johnson while starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson. Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’O and Mark Hamill.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set for release on December 15th.
