Fantastic Beast 2: Zoe Kravitz Coming Back As Leta Lestrange

Zoe Kravitz quietly joined Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them shortly after production began. It was further known that Kravitz was cast in an unspecified role, however, further speculation noticed that her role will expand upon in future sequels. During the latest interview with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them director, David Yates, he would finally confirmed that Zoe Kravitz role is the return of Leta Lestrange. Despite her very brief cameo in the film, Zoe Kravitz‘s character was seen in a photo frame kept by her ex-lover, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne).

In Fantastic Beasts 2 we finally get to see the ex-love interest in the flesh but here’s some further confirmation by director David Yates in an interview with CinemaBlend:

“Yes. Leta Lestrange comes into the second movie. She’s quite complicated and damaged and confused, and Newt is absolutely still in love with her. So, she has a kind of power over him, and she, yeah, she’s a kind of tragic figure, so we will see a bit more of her in the second movie.”

Many already have the name Lestrange on the tip of their tongues and for good reason as the most proinent member of the Lestrange family, Bellatrix Lestrange, played by Helena Bonham Carter appeared in the Harry Potter movies. Two other members of the Lestranges were mentioned and appeared in the stage play ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child‘, where it was revealed in a shocking twist that Bellatrix and Voldermort had a love child, while Bellatrix‘s sister Narcissa was married into the Malfoy family. It remains to be seen exactly where Leta Lestrange falls on this pure blooded family tree as the Lestrange is one of the “Sacred 28“. On a side note, the “Sacred 28” is 28 families of “true blood” wizards.

Despite this series being first a trilogy and now expanded to five movies, there’s potential of Kravitz appearing in more than just the second film. Kravitz could potentially conflict with a possible love interest for Newt Scamander. At the end of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Scamander hinted at a romantic connection between himself and Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston).

Earlier this month, director David Yates revealed Fantastic Beasts 2 will be set in Paris which will set-up to expand the magical universe. Eddie Redmayne will surely return as Newt Scamander, as Johnny Depp will also return as Gellert Grindelwald. Other stars from the first Fantastic Beasts have not been confirmed to return. Warner Bros. has Fantastic Beasts 2 set for a November 16, 2018 release date, but filming has yet to be confirmed.
