(Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, & Batista)
Defeating 29-39 other wrestlers isn’t an easy task, but for those who do accomplish such a feat will put their name in history as being the best. Even when those who don’t deserve that win it’s still a win. Anytime you hear pro-wrestling the one name which will live with this industry forever. Hogan was the original people’s champ as he made sure all those fans said their prays and took their viatmins. The years 1990 & 1991 saw “The Immortal”, even with the recent controversial incidents won consecutive rumble matches. In the closing moments of the first win, Perfect hit Hogan with a Perfect-Plex but Hogan “hulked up” and threw Perfect into the ring post. Hogan connected with clotheslines and threw Perfect over the turnbuckle and across the ring post to the floor, to win the 1990 Royal Rumble match. Hogan’s second rumble victoriy in The Royal Rumble marked the continuation of an ongoing feud between Hulk Hogan and Earthquake, whose roots dated to mid-1990 when Earthquake injured Hogan in a sneak attack during “The Brother Love Show”. Hogan and Earthquake were the final two competitors in the Royal Rumble, and Hogan eliminated Earthquake to win the Royal Rumble.
A two-time victory in the Royal Rumble match was seen for a second time by the “Heartbreak Kid” Shwn Michaeles, but hey the man is one of the best performers in the busines even retired. Never was one of my favorites, but can’t hide the respect one has for him. Michaels was deemed “Mr. WrestleMania” and he never won the Royal Rumble match, the number of times he competed at Mania. Although I digress from the point. Michaels win in ’95’s Royal Rumble saw him win the match as he entered #1. In the end he won the match even with the circumstances. Michaels, who had only touched the floor with one foot, was not eliminated from the match, however. He attacked Smith from behind and threw him out of the ring to become the first wrestler to win the Royal Rumble after entering first. Michaels celebrated in the ring with Pamela Anderson During 1996, Michaels teased a retirement, only to return to the WWF at the Royal Rumble match, which he wound up winning for a second year in a row, to receive a WWF Championship match in the main event at WrestleMania XII.
In the modern-era two wrestlers that were ade at WrestleMania 22, via winning the company’s major championships; the WWE & World Heayweight Championships from JBL & Triple H respectively. Batista would win the 2005 Royal Rumble match to defeat Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. Those past few months catapulted Batista to superstadom. In 2014, Batista returned to the WWE after leaving back in 2010 to enter and win the Royal Rumble of 2015. The win was his second, but was met with major criticism by fans when it was thought that Daniel Bryan would win. Nevertheless Batista has said, in recent interviews that it was a bad time to return to WWE and hopes his retirement match is against his former mentor Triple H. John Cena seen the same cataulpate, but was in the top spot as “Face of the WWE” and has been for the past decade and few years. Cena would experience his first taste of rumble victory in the latter of his career of 2008. Triple H & Randy Orton would fued with Cena after he didn’t want to wait for Mania 24 to get his title match. In 2013, Cena won his seond Royal Rumble which centered around his fued with The Rock for the WWE Championship; who defeated CM Punk. At WrestleMania 29, Cena would get his “redemption” against The Rock for losing at WrestleMania 28. In this year’s Rumble we may see another two-time winner as Del Rio, Sheamus, Brock Lesnar, & Roman Reigns all have won. Will that happen tonight?
