Star Wars “The Force Looks Back” Pt. II: ‘Episode II: The Attack Of The Clones’ (2002)

The battle between the forces on the dark & light side get heated as Count Dooku battles three determined Jedis

Written by: J. Johnson

We previously in our six part article series, “Star Wars ‘The Force Looks Back‘” we talked about the lightsaber battle between the mercenary & Sith Lord Darth Maul (Ray Park) doing battle with the teacher & student duo of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The match is looked as one of the top four battles in Star Wars history. For the sequences that occurred in the battle. It only helped more that Maul was wielding a double-sided lightsaber to fight of the Jedis that stood in his way to kidnap the princess.

Now we head to episode II where a former apprentice of Yoda comes into play for the dark side of the force. Dooku would imprison Obi-Wan trying to persuade him to join him on the dark side, but it proved to not work as Kenobi’s loyalty to peace and balance only strengthen his resolve. Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) assured his allies that his master would not let the Republic get away with it. However, as the Clone army fought their droid army, Dooku and the other leaders planned their retreat. Before leaving, Dooku was given the designs to the ultimate weapon by Archduke Poggle. Dooku assured him that the designs would be safe with his master. Dooku then took his speeder and was accompanied by two Geonosian fighters. However, he was followed by Kenobi and Skywalker’s gunship

II. Count Dooku vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, & Yoda

Oops kind of went off on a tangent with that explanation about Dooku’s plans, the battle of Geonosis, Obi-Wan’s imprisonment, and the eventually save by Yoda and co. (Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson), Anakin, and the Jedi Order). Even with all that Dooku managed to get away, but was cut off by Anakin & Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) in a paced lightsaber duel. What makes this one special than the one with “millions” of Jedis clashing with the droids is the fact of seeing the classic style in which Dooku fought.

This was the first battle Anakin fought a Sith Lord (canonical at least), but ultimately failed. Dooku would use the ways of the dark side to win his battle. Educating the young Jedis why he’s the strongest former Jedi of them all. Dooku packs the wit and methodical tameritdary of wielding the lightsaber. We would end up seeing Dooku fight his former master, Yoda which was something many fans of the franchised wanted to see. Yoda has the edge of experience, being agile, and like Dooku the wit. It was a short-lived battle ending in the test of the force by both, but a decently good battle nevertheless.

Now even with that escape from the Count it was definitely not the last they seen each other. The lightsaber battles can be displayed in many ways. Whether it’s the old fashion way with a one on one assault trying to get the better of someone or using anything to your advantage. Count Dooku proven that he would do anything he saw fit to see the plan’s inception happen.
