“Mortal Kombat X” stage DLC has been teased by Ed Boon on the NetherRealm Studios director’s Twitter account. The Pit from the original “Mortal Kombat” might finally be coming to current-gen consoles and mobile devices.
This much is evident thanks to a tweet from Boon that was dispatched just hours ago. Under the caption “encore,” a full moon can be seen in a darkened sky. Diehard fans over at the “Mortal Kombat” Reddit community have confirmed that the screencap is a portion of a full render of the Pit found in 2011’s “Mortal Kombat.”
This tease strongly suggests that the historic fighting arena will make its way into the current entry too. Better yet, it might even arrive as one small part of an “encore” Kombat Pack with more stages, fatalities and possibly characters to mess around with.
The “Mortal Kombat X” community could certainly use some consolation right about now. Just days ago, its publishers at Warner Bros. Interactive announced that the game’s PS3 and Xbox 360 ports had been canceled for good. To add fuel to that fire, the latest patch for its current-gen version was rife with glitches that made Tanya far more powerful than her opponents.
While those two recent developments may sting, a second Kombat Pack of DLC has consumed the hearts and minds of many “Mortal Kombat X” players for months. NetherRealm making good on that desire would definitely soften the blow.
It’s also worth noting that this particular tease isn’t the first time Ed Boon has given thought to adding classic stages to his popular fighting game. In addition to talk of more arenas, he’s also posted images hinting at story mode content and guest fighters.
