“Super Smash Bros Wii U/3DS”: Sakurai Promises Several More Fighters… But When?

Super Smash Bros 4 character DLC may be be the best unforeseen feature of the Wii U and 3DS game. New playable additions like Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy and Ryu join the original roster and keep the SSB4 experience fresh. Masahiro Sakurai’s decision to bring new characters to the Smash Bros game was the right one, and it looks like we’ll see even more new playable fighters.

According to an interview with Famitsu Weekly, translated by Source Gaming, the Super Smash Bros 4 director wants to continue to bring fans new video game mascots to play with.

“There is a fighter ballot on the official Smash for Wii U/3DS website. We’ve received an extremely large number of votes, but of course, Lucas, Roy, and Ryu were in developed even before the ballot was created. I had a grasp on their popularity and demand, though.

From now until the end, it is going to be fan service, but I can’t keep the development team together forever, so there’s only going to be several more characters. I also ask for your patience, as we need time to develop more content.”

While we don’t receive any hints towards who we can expect from the Smash Bros Fighter Ballot, we do learn numerous new additions will come to the game. Perhaps even multiple selections from the Fighter Ballot itself. Meaning fans will be able to have their Isaac as well as some Banjo Kazooie and Shantae.

Finally, we learn in the interview that the most recently added DLC — Lucas, Roy and Ryu – were not selections from the Smash Bros Fighter Ballot. Sakurai and his Smash Bros team at Nintendo had bringing the characters to the series in mind for some time. Which  Meaning while the announcement of the Street Fighter character was plenty exciting, the best is yet to come.
