WWE: The Hidden Gem Of A Tag Team That’s Dolph Ziggler/Ryback

According to a Feb. 8 report from Give Me Sport, two of the WWE’s most popular babyface characters — Ryback and Dolph Ziggler — could be tag team partners on a long-term basis. Ryback and Ziggler teamed up for a match against Gold and Stardust on this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, but it was originally expected to be a one-night only gig.

The crowd reaction was apparently so strong that the WWE’s creative team is thinking about keeping Ryback and Ziggler as a tag team for the months ahead. At first glance, it seemed the only reason Ryback and Ziggler were teamed together on WWE SmackDown was to advance the rift between Gold and Stardust.

During the match, Stardust left his brother to fend for himself, as Ryback and Ziggler gained the upper hand on Goldust. The point was to advance the feud between Gold and Stardust, heading into Wrestlemania 31. Shockingly, the match had different consequences than expected, as fans fell in love with the tag team of Ryback and Ziggler.

What does the new tag team mean for the future of the WWE? How will it change the career paths for Ryback and Ziggler? First of all, the Wrestlemania 31 match between Ziggler and Daniel Bryan is now in doubt.

Ziggler was scheduled to fight Bryan in a singles match at the star-studded pay-per-view, but those plans appear to have been scrapped. It seems the WWE will move forward with Ziggler and Ryback as a tag team. Does the pairing make sense? There’s no doubt about it. The WWE was in need of some fresh blood in the tag team division, with The Ascension failing to catch on as the promotion was hoping.

With Goldust set to retire a couple months from now, The Brotherhood will probably also not be in the mix in the months ahead. It’s also expected that The Miz and Damien Sandow will be breaking up as a tag team in a few months, since Sandow’s body double character has grown a bit stale. That leaves The Usos and A New Day as the only viable title contenders in the division. Now with Ryback and Ziggler, the WWE has some new life in the tag team division.
