Sparx Entertainment Presents: No Shade I’m, Mickey Elliott

The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself.” ~ Anna Quindlen

Many young Americans feel the need to be accepted by their peers. People change their clothing style, the manner in which they converse, and the people with whom they associate themselves with, just to fit in. This social problem has deprived many people of their individuality and the ability to interact truthfully. It takes a unique individual to say that being himself is more important than following mainstream paths.

Mickey Elliott is one of those unique individuals to say that he’ll be himself and live his life without fear of judgment. His comedy and acting skills have been a huge way to express himself. Whether he be dealing with stress, enjoying the summer, or just showcasing his family, all of what you see is nothing, but genuine Mickey. Mock him or love him, his personality is unique, just as everyone’s should be. Mickey shows us many different facets of his character, but at the end of the day, he’s definitely no shade. He’s Mickey Elliott

We were able to get Mickey to answer a few question so you can get to know the real Mickey Elliott.

Q: Tell us your name and where you’re from?

My name is Mickey Elliott Chan.  I was named Mickey because my dad was a fan of Mickey Rourke, that old actor no one really remembers.  My middle name, Elliott, came from my mom who had a celebrity crush on Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada.

Q: How was your childhood?

My fondest childhood memories are of me and my brother.   We would spend our mornings watching Power Rangers on TV, playing Nintendo games for hours or going tobogganing down our staircase.

When I was 11 years old, my parents lent me and my brother their camcorder and that’s the first time I ever started making videos.  The first videos I ever filmed were home videos of my family doing mundane things like washing the dishes or doing the laundry.  My brother and I later discovered that we could film comedy skits and our first productions usually involved one of us farting into the camera or barging in on one another while we were in the bathroom.  Classic.

Q: Should your parents have been more or less strict?

I actually think my parents struck the perfect balance.  I’ve been fortunate to have a close relationship with my parents that has only grown with time.  I think that’s in large part due to the way I was raised.  My parents were never overly strict and supported me in whatever I did.  For example, when I was in high school, I decided to pursue acting professionally.  Not many Asian parents would allow their son to focus on acting, but mine did because they knew it was my passion.  However, I also had boundaries and knew that if I ever did something I wasn’t supposed to, there would be consequences.

Q: Everyone know you from YouTube, but what who is Mickey once the camera goes off?

I think a lot of people don’t know that I’m actually an introvert off camera.  On camera, I showcase my more playful side where my character traits tend to be exaggerated for comedic effect.  Off camera, I truly value my privacy and enjoy my time alone.  Whether that’s reading a book or lying in bed listening to music, I can be highly anti-social.
