WWE: CM Punk & WWE Reach An Historic Deal

According to an Oct. 27 report from Wrestling Inc, CM Punk is back in the good graces of the WWE, as the promotion has reached a deal with him and his legal team to sell merchandise bearing his name and likeness. The WWE has not released financial figures on the historic new agreement with Punk, and it should also be noted that Punk has not signed any kind of new performer contract to return to the ring.

Last month, the WWE pulled all CM Punk-themed merchandise from their online shop, after the former superstar served them with a 22-page letter from his legal team. The letter essentially asked the WWE to pay Punk for the royalties he felt he was owed for the merchandise the promotion sold with his name and likeness on it. In response, the WWE held a clearance sale on all Punk items, and then stopped selling his merchandise at all just a few days later.

Flash forward a month and all appears to be peachy in CM Punk land. Word hasn’t gotten out publicly, but an agreement of some kind appears to have been made between Punk and the WWE. What does this mean for Punk’s future as an active wrestler in the WWE? Time will tell the answer to that question, but for now this situation is a sign that the tension between Punk and the WWE is started to dissipate.

As most WWE fans know by now, Punk walked away from the promotion following this year’s Royal Rumble. He was apparently legitimately burnt out from competing, as his body was ravaged by aches and pains that accumulated from wrestling in hundreds of WWE matches over a 10-year span. Punk needed a little break, so he stopped appearing at WWE house shows and went hastily into retirement.

In his downtime, he was spotted at Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks games. Punk also married his long-time sweetheart, WWE Divas Division champ AJ Lee. What happens next for Punk is anyone’s guess. At this point, it appears even his former friends in the WWE have stopped communicating with him. By all accounts, Punk has tried to distance himself from the WWE community.

No one knows for sure what the future holds for Punk as an active wrestler, but his new merch deal with the WWE is a great sign that he’ll be back someday. On the other hand, the NHL season just started, and that may take up the bulk of Punk’s time.
