Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir? Rematch?

Brock Lesnar is the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion and is under contract to the WWE until “Wrestlemania 31.” He is on a good deal, and makes a lot of money for limited appearances. However, there seems to always be an idea that he could possibly return to the UFC one day. Despite leaving the UFC for serious medical concerns, the door still seems to be open and an old nemesis would like to see it. According to PWS on Friday, Frank Mir said he would like a rematch with Brock Lesnar in the UFC.

For a brief history lesson, Brock Lesnar was a dominant professional wrestler in the WWE and a main event star when he decided to walk away from professional wrestling. Originally, his dream was to play in the NFL, but he couldn’t make the Minnesota Vikings main squad and finally threw in the towel and set his eyes on another goal. Brock Lesnar trained and entered the UFC.

Lesnar fought one MMA match for Hero’s and then signed with the UFC. Instead of working his way up through the ranks, the UFC decided to just throw him into the title picture. In his first match in the UFC, he submitted to former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir. After winning his second match, by beating Heath Herring, Lesnar got a UFC Heavyweight Championship match despite only sporting a 1-1 record. Lesnar beat Randy Couture for the title by TKO.

Lesnar defended his title against Frank Mir, to hopefully avenge his earlier UFC loss, and won that match by TKO in the second round. He then beat Shane Carwin after some time off for an intestinal disease known as diverticulitis. He then lost the title in his next match to Cain Velasquez in the first round by TKO. He once again fell to diverticulitis, this time almost dying. Despite this, he tried to fight again and lost to Alistair Overeem. After this, he returned to the WWE.

The problems with diverticulitis in his past might make his return to the UFC a pipe dream. Brock Lesnar is enjoying a successful career in the WWE, something that pays him a lot of money while giving him a lot of time off to do what he enjoys. Returning to the UFC would mean a lot of training and a serious chance of hurting his legacy. However, if he does decide to return, Frank Mir is waiting for their rubber match.
