WWE: Ryback To Be Repackaged With Another Huge Push
WWE fans have noticed that Ryback has been missing in action over the past two months. It was August when Ryback hinted that he was taking time off to get some things fixed and even posted a pre-surgery photo on Twitter showing that he was about to go under the knife. According to PWS on Thursday, Ryback is now fully recovered and ready to make his WWE return.
Before taking time off for surgery, Ryback was actually starting to get over again with WWE crowds. Somehow, he and Curtis Axel started to win matches and get a push after leaving Paul Heyman. While fans still seemed uninterested in Axel, the son of WWE Hall of Fame legend Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig, Ryback was starting to get cheered.
There were even moments on a few “WWE Monday Night Raw” episodes where fans were pulling out Ryback’s old catchphrases, “feed me more” and “finish it.” The cheers were most notable in his home town of Las Vegas, where fans were chanting “we want Ryback” throughout the night. However, it was not just a hometown crowd thing, as he has been getting more cheers lately.
When Ryback first appeared in the WWE, he was known as Skip Sheffield and was part of the Nexus faction. However, after an injury, he was repackaged as Ryback and came in as a big man wrestler who squashed enhancement talent in handicap matches. Fans loved him and he was pushed into a world title feud with CM Punk. His matches with Punk ended with The Shield making their WWE debut and putting him through tables.
While that finish might have been to protect Ryback from taking a clean loss, it had the opposite effect. With The Shield just dominating Ryback and the big man never getting over CM Punk, fans lost interest in him. Over time, it was said that Ryback hurt a number of wrestlers with some sloppy, lazy moves and he was pushed down the card until he started losing more and more.
The word is now that the WWE might be looking at repackaging Ryback before he makes his return. With the fans starting to warm up to him again, there is a chance that a big return at the right moment could thrust Ryback back into the main event scene again. With a WWE world champion in Brock Lesnar who is never on television, it is a good time for other stars to step up.
