The GameStop Credit Card Arrives!
By: John Colombo (Sparx Entertainment Contributor)
They’ve finally done it. Video game super chain GameStop has finally began to rollout its application process for their very own GameStop Credit Card. Information about the companies store credit card was leaked earlier this year but there was no set date given to the public for when they could actually begin to sign up.
At the time of this article it is currently 4:30 AM and I received an email from GameStop about my PowerUp Rewards monthly statement. Like always I skim the email to check my points balance and to my surprise I see an icon telling me to click to apply for the Gamestop PowerUp Rewards Credit Card. I was shocked, it’s finally here. After looking over the small list of benefits I eagerly applied.
To those who currently posses credit cards the application process is one were all used to. Simple name and address along with income questions. After submitting your application you should be informed on the outcome in about 10 business days by physical mail from the bank. Now let’s get down to the real business of this store card. What do you get by holding one of these money cards anyway?
Well for starters you get a nice little PowerUp Rewards points bonus (15,000 for pro members and 5,000 for basic), access to exclusive cardholder deals (none of which are displayed or touched upon so it’s a shot in the dark as to what we really will get but I’ll assume its a further discount on used products along with more points per purchase), a special Day 1 edition card for those early adopters, as well as the ability to pay off your charge in 6 months which is a neat addition. So who really is this for? Mainly the avid GameStop goer who solely gets their gaming purchase fix from GameStop stores but another also conveniently times demographic, holiday shoppers.
Its October people, Christmas as well as Hanukkah and many other widely celebrated gift giving holidays is just around the corner. What better timing than to release their own store credit card than for families looking to invest into buying the new generation of gaming consoles or buying up all the new releases for Johnny to have underneath the tree.
Personally I see this as a benefit since I’m going to be adopting the Xbox One this season and what better way to get it and be able to pay the investment of over a nice 6 month period of time. To first time credit card holders make sure you read the fine print and get caught up on all the terminology along with the interest rates and any other important information.
Tell us, will you be one of the first to adopt this new card? Do you think a GameStop Credit Card is a good idea? Let us know by leaving a comment, shooting us an email or tweeting at us.
