Review: ‘Supernatural’ From The Editor Chief
Supernatural review
Before I start reviewing this TV show let me say that I won’t go episode per episode nor season per season but I will review it as a whole otherwise you’ll have to read at least 100 pages aaaand….. Maybe it will happen… Ok let’s begin.
Supernatural is an action-sci-fi TV show created by Eric Kripke that narrates the story of two brothers Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) as they hunt supernatural entities such as ghost, demons, monsters etc… What makes Supernatural a must watch? This TV show gives you everything you are looking for, drama, action, horror, comedy, gore and more, it’s like watching a lot of different TV shows all in one. Season 1 episode 1 already sets up the mood of the show and gives you a lot of background about your main characters. One of the things that you’ll enjoy is that they don’t just go there and kill the “bad guy”, they show you all the process that takes in order to identify the entity and how to kill it. You really start getting into the legends and oh boy ALL the legends you know will be on the show.
The two main characters are unique and their personality are well shown. Dean is your typical tough guy who literally laughs in front of certain death and never shows fear, while Sam is more the “geek” who does most of the research and tries to find a solution to any situation. The story of these brothers can’t be described because it changes so much through the seasons but one thing doesn’t change, no matter where these two are they will always protect each other, kill every supernatural thing in their way, and save as many people as they can (after all its the family business) also they will try getting out of awful situations…a lot of times. The episodes run time go from 40-45 minutes so there is plenty of time to get to know what goes on (plot wise) to let the story unfolds. In 45 minutes this show is capable of delivering all kind of emotions, twist/turns, references from previous episodes, and it never drags even with the fillers.
Starting season 4 the story starts to change introducing the Angels, but not your typical angels, these are more like soldiers who really don’t care much about us humans, instead their purpose is to slay demons no matter the cost, but one angel will become your favorite and his name is Castiel. Castiel’s character (played by Misha Collins) is always fun to watch and he evolves so much through the seasons. He and Dean will have a lot of funny scenes that you can’t miss. The first 5 seasons of the show are amazing in all aspect, from writing to acting to ingenious twist and turns. Although starting season 6 the show starts taking some hits, Sam and Dean aren’t the problem but the writing and the story are because it feels like they didn’t know where to go and some episodes felt dragged. And everyone know without that spark, it doesn’t make them that great.
Most of the recent seasons focus on Angels and Demons, specifically Castiel and Crowley (played by Mark Sheppard). Crowley’s character is one of the best “villain” of the show, I put those quotation marks because recently he is all over the place, and nonetheless he is really great and entertaining. Season 9 really surprised me because I felt like supernatural was back to his roots, the episodes got that spark back, the legends are back and the story is as good as the first 5 seasons. The ending of season 9 left me shocked and I can’t wait to see what season 10 has in store for us. Overall Supernatural is a must watch, it delivers greatness in all aspect and it’s a complete show. If you really get into it, even after season 5 you will still be there watching your favorite characters in action and you’ll still have fun.
I’ll rate Supernatural at 9/10.
