Danny Boyle and Alex Garland revive the rage in the ’28’ franchise with the anticipated 28 Years Later, a full-length trailer, and a release date.
The sequel to 28 Weeks Later, which takes place 28 years after the initial outbreak of the rage virus, features an eerie trailer from Sony Pictures that depicts what’s left of civilization. The synopsis reads,
“It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”
From the looks of it, this installment will feature some of the most horrific moments within the franchise, and we all know how tragic 28 Weeks Later was during that outbreak. Additionally, reports suggested that Cillian Murphy, who starred in the 2002 original 28 Days Later, would reprise his role and serve as the film’s executive producer, despite not making an appearance. However, there appears to be some speculation, as one shot in the trailer shows an emaciated corpse rising up, eerily resembling Murphy’s character. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

The upcoming film stars, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Erin Kellyman, Ralph Fiennes, Edvin Ryding, Jack O’Connell, and Cillian Murphy. 28 Years Later will rage in theaters on June 20th, 2025
