United you’ll fight together to battle them all.

On Wednesday morning, gamers got a first look at the latest Pokemon adventure. GameFreak would announce during a Pokemon Presents event that the developer is entering the online multiplayer genre. Pokemon Unite is a 5-on-5 style game that shares the MOBA space like League of Legends but with a Pocket Monster twist than warriors, knights, and magic.

The game is being developed by Chinese tech giant Tencent’s TiMi Studios, this is the same company responsible for the massive free-to-play online games like Honor of Kings and Call of Duty: Mobile.

This will be the company’s first team-based title in the franchise’s 24-year history. According to GameFreak, players will have to cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokemon, level up and evolve their own, and defeat opponents’ Pokemon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the time limit.

Today’s trailer showcased the game’s franchise favorites like Pikachu, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, and Lucario alongside other Pokemon. The news breaking today caps a busy month for the Pokemon franchise with Pokemon Sword and Shield releasing their major expansion pack; Mega Evolution coming to Pokemon Go; Pokemon Smile, a mobile toothbrushing app for Apple/Android; a new puzzle game that released today Pokemon Cafe, a new version of the classic N64 favorite, Pokemon Snap that will make its way to the Nintendo Switch. There’s no telling when or if any new games will be announced in the coming weeks but one can only hope.

Pokemon Unite does not have a current release date but we will provide an update once one is revealed.
