HBO has an array of award-winning original series from The Sopranos to Westworld. You could possibly add to that list a brand new miniseries featuring Amy Adam (Man of Steel) titled, Sharp Object. HBO offered a first look at the adaptation back in April, but we didn’t see anything else, now we get a new trailer.
Sharp Object is helmed by showrunner Marti Noxon and directed by Jean-Marc Vallée. The story involves a reporter (Amy Adams) fresh off a stay at a psych hospital who must return to her tiny hometown for her latest assignment: covering the murder of two preteen girls. Judging by that little description there we already know Adams‘ character will be going uncover some dark and disturbing secrets that most likely will tie into her own past. You even get that feeling as there’s a lot of tension with Adams‘ character and her mother. There’s no doubt this miniseries has a lot of promise for being one of the most talked about series this summer.
Here’s the official synopsis for Gillian Flynn‘s Sharp Object:
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family’s Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.
