What We Know So Far…

Before the summer, Seth Rollins released a couple of screenshots for the upcoming WWE game, courtesy of 2K Games. The notable aspect of the photos was the intricate details in the character model (Seth Rollins) and the lighting that reflects off its surrounding areas. After the photo’s release, 2K would also provide a trailer featuring someone breaking into the WWE Archives destroying memorable items pertaining to various WWE Legends. The ending of the video shown the figure standing outside as the building continued to the burn to the ground and revealed the figure to be the cover star, Seth Rollins. After knowing the cover star being revealed as Seth Rollin, the pre-order bonus was then, revealed to be Kurt Angle after the trailer video depicted an angry Kurt picking up his classic wrestling boots. The pre-order bonus that features the RAW General Manager, Kurt Angle brings two different versions of the Olympic gold medalist from his classic WWE debut and his time in the WWE ECW era. In episode four of the WWE2K Dev series 2K shown off various characters models and compared them to last year’s version, it featured Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar.

On July 27th, 2K announced a collector’s edition of WWE 2K18 that provides some great features and collectibles for the advent WWE fan. The collector’s edition features multiple versions of John Cena (ECW One Night Stand & WrestleMania 26) and a couple of rivalries that tested Cena during his 15 year run, Batista and Rob Van Dam.

Knowing that Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Kurt Angle and Seth Rollins would be featured in the game, the anticipation for the roster reveal began with it being scheduled to showcase via live stream on IGN with WWE’s announcers Corey Graves and Rene Young. The roster reveals would be broken down into a 4-day event, every Tuesday. During the reveal, WWE superstars such as The Rock, The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, The Miz, John Cena, and so much more were revealed along with superstars from 205 Live, NXT, and WWE Legends/Hall of Fame. Vince McMahon/Mr. McMahon, Papa Shango, and Albert were later announced to be included in the game.

The news would later keep coming as WWE 2K announced Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Executive Soundtrack Producer for the upcoming game. Last year, WWE 2K partnered with Sean Combs aka Puff Daddy while in WWE 2K15 partnered with Wiz Khalifa and John Cena. This year, the soundtrack features 11 unique songs that represent Johnson’s favorite artists and music genres ranging from hip-hop, classic rock, hard rock to blues, R&B, and soul.  The Great One would go to be quoted as saying “Music is one of my soul’s anchors. All genres. I’m excited to celebrate my WWE roots by partnering with the 2K and Apple Music teams and share some of my favorite hardcore training songs with fans all over the world.”

From the roster reveal to the focus on the enhanced approach on the graphics there’s no disputing that WWE 2K18 will be one of the great games in the WWE 2K franchise. Following this, WWE 2K would announce some of the content that will be featured in the game such as an expansion of the Creation Suite and the addition of new animations and storylines for the WWE Universe mode. One aspect that hasn’t been featured in a WWE game for a few years is the return of Create-A-Match where you could have a 2 out of 3 falls-20-Minute-IronMan matches or a simple No Holds Barred match. Another huge piece of news is the extensive expansion on the MyCareer mode that catapults this mode to new heights. This year, WWE 2K18 takes literally gives you the power to climb the mountain in the WWE. The return of free-roaming has made its way back into the player’s hand and provides the player a variety shift in telling a compelling story for your character. You’ll have two very different paths to follow en route to your own WrestleMania moment (your story won’t end at WrestleMania) as a ‘Company Man’ or a ‘Fan Favorite’. Another is MyCareer Invasion, where MyPlayers have the opportunity to face off against their friends in MyCareer. It’s up to you what role your friends’ MyPLAYERs will have in your MyCareer. Who cannot be pumped for this year’s WWE 2K game? It chuck full of content that will satisfy the hardcore and casual fans whether you like MyCareer or simply like playing Exhibition with your friends. This game will have everything you want for a wrestling game. However, with more news to be revealed like the DLC packs and the in-depth details for the WWE Universe mode here’s the first-ever gameplay trailer that will give you goosebumps.

WWE 2K18 arrives on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 17, 2017, and set for a Nintendo Switch release for this Fall.
