SPARX Features Presents: Mixing N’ Zening ‘A WAVE MMLZ Story’
SPARX: Tell us about the time you first heard hip hop and your reaction about the to it? Did you decide then, and there it was something you wanted to do?
My first taste of Hip Hop goes back as far as I can remember. For whatever reason, my mom had the “Skull and Bones” album by Cypress Hill and I vividly remember blasting the track “Rock Superstar” at maybe 5 years old. “So you wanna be a rock superstar / live large / big house, 5 cars / in charge….” And I couldn’t get enough of it. Over the years my horizons expanded to Ludacris, The Black Album by Jay-Z and beyond.
SPARX: Have you always wanted to produce instead of being a musician or do both go hand and hand with the career path you have set out for yourself
I think I always had an interest in producing. My older cousin used to produce and that really inspired me. I was primarily a drummer for a long time until I got fed up depending on other people to make music. That’s when I realized I could make an entire beat / an entire song by myself on the computer.
SPARX: Is being a producer or musician your definite career path or is there another route you may take in the future?
It has always been my passion so I can’t imagine doing anything else. I think when I get older I’d like to transition to more behind the scenes work, mainly with my label and producing young artists with a similar mentality. But there’s no stop in sight for me now.

SPARX: Let us rewind back during late 2014, we official touched base and you were ready to release your new track “Trap Door Black Hole”. Tell us about how you approached that project? Was it an introductive piece/first MV?
In hindsight, I really love that track. I feel like that was one of the first tracks I made when I began to get a grip on my sound as an artist. The video was shot on a whim one rainy night by Landon Hill and the rest is history.
SPARX: What was your impression doing your first MV?
Making that was great because I had no expectations. After we made the video I was blown away, it was one of our first attempts at anything like that.
SPARX: We got Chief’s take on Tribe Chillen, but what were your outlooks on the group forming and what made you want to join?
Those were my boys before the music or anything. So joining them wasn’t really a big deal because they were my good friends. At the time I had only been performing in bands and I had JUST started producing so it seemed like a natural next step. I was definitely looking for something new.
