There’s no question that this Transformers movie isn’t the same formula that’s made the franchise a big box office draw. From the very beginning, Paramount marketing the film has worked in the sense that fans should be ready to enjoy an intensely different Transformers movie. The trailer signifies this by showcasing some of the Transformers aligning themselves with knights at a sort of round table setting.
Another key point that’s pointed out is the idea of having Optimus Prime will become the bad guy as he’s simply following the orders of his creator to destroy Earth to resurrect a form of the Autobot planet. There’s a subtle inclination that Unicron may very well appear in this movie but of course, there’s no official confirmation on that. Even with a few months left until the official release of the film the story isn’t quite clear. However here’s the official synopsis for Transformers: The Last Knight.
“The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive theirs, or ours.”
Despite critics and fans alike not expecting this film to be as promising as the original, there’s no denying that Transformers has raked in millions. Transformers: Age of Extinction did bring in more than $1 billion worldwide so you can’t expect Paramount to halt plans just yet. Michael Bay did recently reveal that the studio has planned for 14 more films in the Transformers’ franchise. Transformers: The Last Knight will star Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, Stanley Tucci, Laura Haddock and Sir Anthony Hopkins along with the Autobots, Decepticons, and Dinobots.
Transformers: The Last Knight is directed by Michael Bay and set to transform into theaters on June 23rd.
