Ghost in the Shell is widely being criticized (and justifiably so) for its lack of Asian influences despite the anime and manga being heavily set in a futuristic Tokyo. Nevertheless, there’s plenty to look forward to as many are vaguely interesting to see what Scarlett Johansson does with the role. You can’t take away from the fact that Rupert Sanders definitely has a vision for the movie as we already have an amazing visual look for what’s to come. That being said, we have gotten a few teasers that have laid pieces of what this movie is about even though it’s not concrete.
It was announced the first full trailer for Ghost in the Shell will be revealed this coming weekend; Sunday, November 13th. There’s also a big event planned over in Tokyo where the trailer will be unveiled. It will be refreshing to see a full trailer as these teasers are just a taste for the big plate being served. While waiting for the trailer to arrive, we’ve got a brief look behind the scenes of the set down in New Zealand. The set is a double to the mid-twenty-first century fictional Japanese city of Niihama.
The behind-the-scenes look is from Entertainment Tonight getting a quick chat with the star Scarlett Johansson:
Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
The cast of Ghost in the Shell also includes Beat Takeshi Kitano as Daisuke, Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet, Michael Pitt as Kuze, Pilou Asbæk as Batou, and Kaori Momoi, also members of Section 9 are played by Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara and Tuwanda Manyimo.
Ghost in the Shell is set for release in theaters March 31st, 2017.
