WWE Backlash left the WWE Universe wondering what else can SmackDown Live! do in terms of telling a story. We’ve seen the crowning of the 1st ever ‘SmackDown’ Tag Team Champion in, Heath Slater; who was pseudo-campaigning himself to prove he’s the hottest free agent to not be drafted & the returning ECW original, Rhyno defeating a very gamed and intense team, The Usos. The women’s division was settled with a 6-Pack challenge where it was anybody’s game to win the first-ever ‘SmackDown’ Women’s Championship. Carmella would surprisingly eliminate former Women’s Champion, Nikki Bella with the roll-up pin. Nikki would enrage Carmella after a devastating slap. In the end, Becky Lynch would come out the victor eliminating Carmella to become the augural Women’s Champion of SmackDown. The main event featured a controversial ending when AJ Styles would use an underhanded tactic to defeat Dean Ambrose to capture WWE‘s richest prize, the WWE World Champion.
You ask yourself, what’s next?
That question was answered on this past Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown, a Fatal 5-Way featured the other competitors from the 6-Pack Challenge match at Backlash. The winner would become the new #1 Contender for Lynch‘s title. It would result in Bliss winning to get this opportunity. Carmella looked like she would walk away the winner after a kick to Bella but the ‘Five Feet of Fury‘ took advantage of the situation. It should noted that Lynch & Bliss are no strangers to facing each other in the ring. They’ve done so on multiple occasions in WWE NXT. On October 9th at WWE No Mercy, it will be Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss for the WWE ‘SmackDown’ Women’s Championship.
Another question answered was, How will the WWE World Championship match look? It would seem likely that AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose would happen after all Ambrose is entitled to a rematch for the title but this past Tuesday, SmackDown Live went a different way. John Cena would make his return and demanded a chance at Styles’ title, Shane would grant it to him. However, Ambrose would get the chance as well. On Sunday, October 9th, it will be a triple threat match for the WWE World Championship.
