A lot is swirling about the X-Men prequel trilogy coming to close with X-Men: Apocalypse set back in the year 1983. In the same breath, the mutants don’t seem to be going away as multiple spinoffs are currently being developed. The New Mutants and Gambit are just a couple as the timeframe is set in the 1990s. Since X-Men: Apocalypse features younger versions of several iconic X-Men mutants, one man, in particular, has wondered about the original cast of the first X-Men trilogy making a comeback… It’s possible, but given the last film being lackluster, it’s only a test of time to see that happen.

Here’s what he said as he recently spoke with Fandango, being asked if he’d like to bring the entire, original cast from the first X-Men trilogy for a new movie.

“I hope so. The night we had a little screening for the cast, I went and saw Patrick Stewart’s wife sing at a local venue with Ian McKellen. The two of us were sitting there watching Patrick’s lovely wife sing – she has a great voice – and I was thinking, yeah, at some point it would be lovely to see them all again. They’re all great actors and great people, and I had great experiences with them. I’d love to see that happen – it’s just you have to figure it out. How do you do that? You can’t do it for the sake of doing it – you have to do it right. Or else it’s just one of those cobbled-together things.”

X-Men: Days of Future Past was the only taste of the original cast returning in some form. The film itself was set in the 1970s but featured a plot that altered the timeline. It included a Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) who didn’t die to basically send the original plot from 2006 (X-Men: The Last Stand) to be erased. Among Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey we also saw James Marsden’s Cyclops make a cameo as Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) seemed to be surprised at the appearances of old friends he thought were dead.

Even as the new timeline being presented at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the next film X-Men: Apocalypse didn’t go further with the new timeline as it focused on the younger versions of the original cast. It isn’t exactly known how the original cast could come together. Especially given the production currently being done on Wolverine 3, which is known to be Hugh Jackman’s final performance as Wolverine. However, if Singer is considering a new movie with the original cast it could be possible that Hugh Jackman makes an appearance of Wolverine. Like always time is the key to everything possibly being done.

X-Men: Apocalypse is now playing theaters!
