Godzilla Resurgence: The King of Monsters Is Back (Trailer)
Written by J. Johnson
Japan’s most terrifying monster has returned to the big screen this summer as Toho Pictures has released their monstrous ‘Godzilla: Resurgence‘ trailer on the public. Although a domestic release has not yet been confirmed, July 29th is the date it will hit the big screen in Japan. In 2014, the King of Monsters made its return to the big screen domestically and was met with mixed reactions from how less the king was shown to the lackluster plot concerning the human side of the movie.
The first Godzilla film from Toho since 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars, Godzilla: Resurgence was filmed last summer with filmmakers Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi; known for their work on Neon Genesis Evangelion and live-action Attack on Titan)
Toho previously revealed they will utilize CG technology for the film with Higuchi calling it the “most terrifying” version of Godzilla to date. The co-director also previously said the filmmakers were going to push the film into a different direction from the happier installments, citing that the world has lost its innocence after the various terrorist attacks and natural disasters over the past few years.
“In movie after movie,” he told ABC News last year , “People merely ran away from the stampeding monster, and no one tried to face up to the issue of accountability.”
The big screen sequel to Gareth Edwards’ recent Godzilla, meanwhile, is slated to hit screens June 8, 2018 from Legendary and Universal Pictures. According to Legendary’s Comic-Con panel last year, he’ll be bringing a few friends. Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah were teased as potential foes.
