Earlier this week, it was reported that Wonder Woman producer Geoff Johns had arrived in the U.K., along with set photographer Clay Enos, sparking speculation that production has already begun on Warner Bros.’ highly-anticipated superhero adaptation. Gal Gadot also shared a photo from one of her workout sessions, which also hinted that principal photography has either started, or will commence very soon. Collider recently spoke with producer Charles Roven, who confirmed that production will start on Wonder Woman at the end of this month in both the U.K. and Italy, with Justice League Part 1 set to start filming in the U.K. early next year.
“We’re actually gonna start shooting [Wonder Woman] towards the end of [November]… We are shooting in the U.K. and in Italy. We’re making most of Wonder Woman [in the U.K.] and we’re also making most of Justice League there, JL One… We’re definitely gonna be shooting Part One in the first or second quarter of next year.”
While Charles Roven didn’t confirm exactly where in the U.K. and Italy that Wonder Woman will be shooting, the producer’s remarks essentially confirm a report from September that claimed part of the production will take place in Italy. That report revealed the shoot will take place at Basilicata, Italy, which is where big-budget movies such as Ben-Hur and Mel Gibson’s 2004 Biblical epic The Passion of the Christ have shot. It isn’t known what scenes will be shot in Italy, but there have been rumors about that portion of the shoot as well.
An unconfirmed rumor that surfaced last month claimed Wonder Woman will feature three different settings, Diana’s homeland of Themyscira, and in America during World War I and in present day. Some have speculated that the Italy shoot could be used to film scenes set in Themyscira, but we don’t know for sure. Gal Gadot is set to star as the title character, with Chris Pine portraying her love interest, Steve Trevor. It was reported last week that Nicole Kidman is in talks for an unspecified role, with Sean Bean and Eva Green reportedly circling the villainous roles of Ares and Circe.
Charles Roven also shot down rumors that both Justice League Part 1 (November 11, 2017) and Justice League Part 2 (June 14, 2019) will be shot back to back. Zack Snyder is directing both films from a script by his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice writer Chris Terrio. What do you think about these new Wonder Woman and Justice League details? Stay tuned for more on both of these projects as we get closer to production starting.
