WWE Night Of Champion (2015)

Every title is on the line, and there’s a couple of other matches as well! This Sunday WWE presentsNight of Champions on traditional PPV and the WWE Network, which will see Seth Rollins pull double duty after defeating John Cena last month to become the first person to hold BOTH the World Championship and the US Championship (apart from Buddy Rogers).

So let’s run down the card.

Seth Rollins vs. Sting for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

For as big of an icon Sting is in this industry, WWE have gone out of their way to make him look like ‘any other guy’. He was the last person they needed to get to complete their WCW Trading Card set, and all they’ve done with him is have him job to Triple H at WrestleMania and feature in an attraction match here. Sting isn’t going to win the title, so he’s going to be 0-2 in WWE. Way to go Sting. The interesting factor here is Sheamus possibly cashing in Money in the Bank. The Celtic Warrior has done a fair number of jobs lately (although he did beat Orton at Summerslam), which would indicate that he’s winning the title on Sunday. It makes sense to them I suppose. Sheamus isn’t on the card either, just to fuel more fire to that idea.

Seth Rollins vs. John Cena for the WWE United States Championship

It was surprising to see Rollins win the US Championship, as was stated in our preview for Summerslam, so I would expect to see Cena win the belt back here. The match will be good, but this particular match-up a few dozen times over the last year it will be a struggle to see them pull out anything new. Although John Cena may do some thing that could surprise you; got to remember Rollins is pulling double-possibly-triple duty tonight so I don’t see him doing too much to exhaust himself.

Ryback vs. Kevin Owens for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Even with his limitations, Ryback usually has a good solid match when it comes to PPV, and this should be no different. Owens is the best – and most underutilised – heel in the company, so he’ll be good for The Big Guy. In terms of who will win, it doesn’t really matter. Owens probably needs the win more than Ryback, but then Ryback works better as a champ than Owens does.

Charlotte vs. Nikki Bella for the WWE Divas Championship

These two will be trying desperately to have the Match of the Night following the high praise of Sasha Banks/Bayley from NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, but I don’t see it happening. Nikki probably should have dropped the belt on Monday’s edition of Raw, but Charlotte winning on PPV isn’t the worst thing in the world. The match will be good, and a step above recent women’s matches on PPV, but this won’t be a barnburner. At the end of this match I do expect certain page turner in a few friendships.

New Day vs. The Dudleys for the WWE Tag Team Championships

Now this is an interesting one. It’s really not the time to take the belts off The New Day, and it sure as hell too early to put the straps on The Dudleys, but WWE could always get cold feet. There is a chance that the magic of The Dudleys’ return can only last so long, and there won’t be as much heat going into the next encounter. However, if they build the next match to be a Tables Match, then we’re talking money. New Day will likely retain.

Neville & The Lucha Dragons vs. Stardust & The Ascension (on the Kick Off Show)

It’s an all-star NXT (plus Stardust) pre-show match. Isn’t it amazing to think that the last time The Ascension were on PPV was Royal Rumble were they beat The New Age Outlaws. Anyone remember that? What’s upsetting is that this has every chance to be the best match on the whole card, but there wasn’t a match you could bump off to get it on the main card. Apart from Dolph and Rusev, but we’ll come to that. It really doesn’t matter who wins, but it will likely end with someone being pinned by Neville following The Red Arrow. All six men deserve better than this.

Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler

Well, here’s a match that’s hard to care about at the moment. Rusev has lost so much steam since they split him up from Lana (though that could change), and Ziggler is just floundering in the midcard. But what hurts this match is the lack of Lana due to her wrist injury. Without her, the match almost feels pointless as she’s the reason this who feud started. This ended in a double countout at Summerslam, but Rusev will probably get the win here. It’s time to move this feud along, but Lana’s out for four months…

Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose & A MYSTERY PARTNER vs. The Wyatts

Everyone loves a mystery partner angle! Who is the third man and WHOSE SIDE IS HE ON? This should be a fantastic match, so long as they keep Braun Stroman to a minimum. Remember, he was a guy that wasn’t good enough to be on NXT television. And they had Dana Brooke out there for weeks! So who will the third man be? Most likely it will be Randy Orton to get the huge pop, but there have been rumours that it could be an NXT call up or even Erick Rowan. Some have said it could be Baron Corbin, which makes little sense. Rowan would make sense from a storyline perspective, but it depends on whether he’s fit enough. The good guys will probably win.
