Welcome One Of Japan’s Sensational Wrestlers to the WWE: Kanna

Late last month, Japanese wrestling superstar Kana made a surprise appearance at the WWE’s NXT Takeover: Brooklyn card at the Barclays Center in New York, seated next to Hall-of-Famers Ric Flair and Sgt. Slaughter.

Looking back, it was a foreshadowing clue that she’d be joining the WWE. On Tuesday, September 8, the WWE officially announced the signing of Kanako Urai to NXT. She’ll report to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando later this month.

“We are very excited to have Kana join the NXT roster,” said Triple H, the WWE’s executive vice president of talent, creative and live events, in a press release. “Her exciting in-ring style will make an immediate impact on the already impressive NXT women’s division.”

Triple H also tweeted about Kana’s signing with the WWE

The latest WWE signee, international women’s wrestling star Kana, recently spoke with Brian Fritz of Sporting News

Kana spoke about why she finally decided to sign with the company, her impression of NXT and the “Divas Revolution”, who she’d like to work with, and more. You can read a few excerpts below:

Kana Talks WWE; Why Did She Sign Now?

I have been in this business for 10 years and have accomplished almost everything there is to accomplish. I was looking for a new challenge and when the opportunity came up with WWE, the timing just felt right.

Who Would Kana Look Forward To Working With On The Current Roster?

After witnessing Bayley win the NXT Divas Championship at NXT: TakeOver in Brooklyn, I knew she was somebody I would want to compete with. I want to be Divas Champion, so she is an obvious answer. I also have a tremendous amount of respect for Charlotte, and would love to get in the ring with her eventually also.

How Does She Think She’ll Transition To The WWE Audience?

Having already experienced American crowds I think will definitely help me with the transition. No matter where the crowd is, it is always about getting some sort of reaction, and I don’t think I will have any problem with that.

After Attending NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, What Are Her Thoughts On The Brand?

The energy in the building was absolutely amazing and like nothing I have ever experienced before. I felt like I was at a live concert. Experiencing that only reassured me that I made the right decision and I can’t want to get in the ring and compete.
