Batman V Superman: Aquaman & The Flash Cameo

As hard as it may be to believe, we are a little over 9 months away from the long-awaited theatrical premiere of Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film is going to be doing more than showcasing a battle between Bruce Wayne and Kal-El’s alter egos, and also lay the foundation for the Justice League movie that’s coming through the pipeline (as the subtitle suggests) – kicking off the much desired DC shared cinematic universe.

The always churning rumor mill has time and time again pointed to multiple Justice League members appearing in some capacity during this crossover event. The prevailing belief is that heroes like Aquaman (played by Jason Momoa) will be making some cameos that set up their larger roles to be fleshed out in later productions. If a new rumor is to be believed, we now know just how extensive of a part these characters have to play in Snyder’s next film.

Super scoopster Umberto Gonzalez of Heroic Hollywood is at it again with fresh details on how both Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s version of The Flash fit into Batman V Superman. According to his sources, there is a scene in Dawn of Justice where Batman breaks deep into LexCorp and hacks into their computer system. He brings up surveillance footage on the monitors that show The Flash as a blur stopping a robbery, and Aquaman being held captive in a containment chamber. As expected, their moments on-screen are fleeting, but it’s more than enough to send fans into a frenzy.

While the plethora of rumors for Batman V Superman has hinted at all kinds of speculation, this definitely seems more legitimate than your typical bit of blockbuster hearsay. This new report seems to add credence to a rumor from a few months back, which stated Aquaman will show up in Lex Luthor’s (Jesse Eisenberg) survey of metahumans, while The Flash would likewise make a brief appearance. Readers should still take the customary grain of salt, but it’s becoming more and more likely Batman V Superman will in fact sport some “super” cameos that hint at what’s to come.

Some moviegoers may roll their eyes and fear that WB is in danger of overstuffing a movie that already has a pretty loaded cast, but there’s really nothing out of the ordinary here. From the sound of it, the “cameos” won’t distract much (if at all) from the core story and merely serve as breadcrumbs so casual audiences are more familiar with certain elements and characters as the studio builds their franchise. With Batman V Superman guaranteed to be a massive box office hit, it makes sense for WB to give “secondary” characters like Aquaman and The Flash maximum exposure before giving them their own solo vehicles to carry.

Should this rumor turn out true, then it brings Batman V Superman‘s “metahuman” count up to six heroes (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and Flash). Interestingly, there’s been no mention of Green Lantern showing up to the party (yet, anyway). Indeed, that hero has been a tricky one to figure out, since casting rumors for the character are few and far between and certain actors who have been rumored for the role (like Chris Pine) may join the DC movie universe in another capacity instead. Green Lantern will more than likely be part of the Justice League film, but for now he’s sitting Dawn of Justice out on the sidelines.

No matter, as Snyder’s film will still have plenty of connections to firmly establish the DCMU and provide a foundation on which to build on. There’s no rush to cram everybody into one film yet, especially with the crux of this particular movie being the conflict between the Dark Knight and the Last Son of Krypton. In the meantime, glimpses of other heroes in action (giving this movie universe a “lived-in” aesthetic) is all we need to get by.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5, 2016; Wonder Woman – June 23, 2017; Justice League – November 17, 2017; The Flash – March 23, 2018; Aquaman – July 27, 2018; Shazam – April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 – June 14, 2019; Cyborg – April 3, 2020; Green Lantern – June 19, 2020.
