WWE: Ric Flair Discuss His Feeling On The Possibility Of John Cena Breaking His Title Record

“The Nature Boy” Ric Flair has won 16 world titles over his career, adding the NWA, WCW, WWE and WWE World totals together. That is more than any other wrestler in the history of the sport. However, John Cena, in only 13 years, has won 15 world titles. He just needs one more world title win to tie Ric Flair for the most in history and PWS reported on Thursday that Flair said he would have no problem with that.

According to Flair, he would be happy for Cena if he broke his world title record because Cena works hard and would deserve it. Over his career, Cena won the WWE Championship 12 times and the WWE World Championship three times. He most recently held the title last year until he lost it to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam in August.

Ric Flair held the WCW wold title eight times, the NWA world title nine times and the WWF world title twice. However, three of the NWA title reigns are not accepted by the WWE because they were not sanctioned NWA title matches and the title was immediately switched back in a rematch and the title change ignored and never mentioned. As a result, out of the 19 title reigns, only 16 are officially recognized.

John Cena is nowhere near finished with his career, and while the WWE is moving on to a younger generation of wrestlers, he will always be involved one way or another in the world title picture. A 16th win is very likely and a 17th win to actually break the record is not out of the question.

Looking at the history of the sport, Edge and Randy Orton each held world titles on 11 different occasions, all in the WWE. Hulk Hogan has been world champion 12 times, six in the WWE and six in WCW. Triple H has 13 world title wins, all in the WWE. After that it is John Cena and Ric Flair, and if Cena moves to the top, it won’t bother Ric Flair one bit.
