Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s Release Date
Konami will officially announce the release date for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but a video has accidently leaked a day early revealing the worldwide release date for the upcoming title. According to a video discovered by a member on NeoGAF today, those looking forward to experiencing Snake’s latest stealth mission will be able to do so in just a few short months. Likewise, Hideo Kojima has revealed that the character of Snake will be more of a silent protagonist this time around, and act the way the player wants him to. Thus, some of the silliness found in previous Metal Gear titles has been removed.
Konami and Kojima Productions will release Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC worldwide on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Though the video has since been taken down, a screen grab of the release date and game logo was saved – as you can see in our banner image. While the release date is the major reveal of the video, Kojima did detail how Snake will act different in the Phantom Pain when compared to past titles.
According to Kojima, Snake will now act more as a silent protagonist in the upcoming title. This means that Snake won’t make as many spontaneous comments or flirt with women. Kojima says that Snake “won’t really speak much at all” in the game. With the game being an open world game, the focus is giving freedom to the player, and Snake will act based on what the player is doing. The supporting cast of characters are the ones who will expand the story found in The Phantom Pain, shared Kojima.

“As much as possible, Snake will act based on the player rather than doing things like making spontaneous comments or flirting with women. In fact, this time, Snake won’t really speak much at all. MGS5 is an open world game focused on giving freedom to the player who will drive Snake’s action. Snake himself will be more of a silent protagonist similar to Mad Max in Mad Max 2. It’s the characters around him who will expand the story.”
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will release worldwide on Sept. 1.
