Mortal Kombat X May Get Another Hell Demon In The Form of Spawn

One of the most interesting dynamics of the recent games created by NetherRealm Studios are the guest fighter inclusions. Fans have been treated to the likes of Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger and Kratos from God of War both making it as playable combatants in the past, and that trend doesn’t appear to be going anywhere with the upcoming Mortal Kombat X.

The creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, has already confirmed that there will be guest fighters in MKX, and it looks as if one of them could be the demonic anti-hero Spawn.

Hot on the heels of rumors stating that Predator will be the bonus fighter featured in the upcoming game, word has surfaced from the creator of Spawn, Todd McFarlane, that Warner Bros. Interactive currently has the rights to feature the ruthless character in any game it sees fit. This, of course, means that Spawn is eligible for inclusion in Mortal Kombat X – provided that NetherRealm Studios wants to use him.

This news came from an interview between GamerfitNation and McFarlane, but the creator of the iconic Spawn IP was quick to state that he currently has no idea if that meant the comic book character is planned for any forthcoming games.

“I don’t know if they’re ever gonna use it. They just might squat on it.”

Spawn Joining Mortal Kombat X Roster

It seems as if the inclusion of Spawn alongside the likes of Scorpion and Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat X is still up in the air, but it’s interesting to note that Warner Bros. Interactive has the ability to use the character whenever it wishes. There’s little doubt that the tragic comic book anti-hero would fit in well with the rest of the combatants (he did make our list of the top five guest characters we want to see join the game) and his arsenal of attacks would be equal parts gruesome and satisfying for MK diehards.

Fans hoping to see Spawn finish off the cast of Mortal Kombat should take this news with a grain of salt, because it would be odd if Todd McFarlane was left in the dark in regards to the inclusion of his baby – even despite NetherRealm having the ability to do so. Still, this is an interesting revelation for those who’ve been following “The One” since his 1992 debut.

Would you like to see Spawn join the MKX roster? What other guest fighter are you hoping to see made playable?
