Q: As a child growing up, music surrounds us: what type of music did you hear the most back then? How does it differ from what you listen to now?

I grew up listening to hair metal bands and 80’s new wave lol and that eventually transitioned into post hardcore rock. The only difference in what I listen to now is really how technology has changed things. I think if all the bands I listened to back in the day had access to what we have now, it would sound very close to what it current.

Q: How does your family support your music career?

My mother, went full force with music. She got her masters in Music Theory and she’s a genius on the piano. With her experiences in striving as a musician professionally, she’s endured its hardships. So knowing those hardships, she’s always advised me against pursuing a career in music to avoid the pain, but she has never stopped me. My father was heavily against it until he realized that I wasn’t going to stop haha.

Q: What has been your strong influence to continue your career?

LIFE.

Q: What was the first song that you ever produced? How did it make you feel?

I wrote my first song at the age of 5 for a district music competition. It was a piano piece and we didn’t own any recording gear so I just recorded myself playing what I wrote onto a tape recorder. It made me feel excited.

Q: What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?

My mom started teaching my sister and me piano at a really young age. And because we were here own kids, she was much stricter with us learning than her normal piano students. I remember how much I use to hate practicing the piano but I loved improvising and just making up stuff as I played. Don’t get me wrong, my mom always encouraged me to do that as well but playing Bach came first priority haha. I could sit there and just make up stuff for hours on the piano. I had a pretty rough time in high school and I would bottle all my feelings inside. Whenever I got on a piano at home, I would spend hours just making up stuff on the piano to release all that frustration. I’m getting a little off point here from the question but all I can say is, I always knew that it’s what I wanted to do.

Enik Lin has produced many songs for the IAMMEDIC group so here’s one ‘Erase You’

Q: How did you become involved in the type of music you produce now?

Like everything, music evolves. Styles also come and go like trends. With that mindset, I’m always looking and trying to evolve my music. But I don’t just produce my own music. As a producer, I also write for other artists, and when it comes to that, I just try to create something that the artist has envisioned. Anything that i do, will always have some type of impression of my calling card on it that is unique to me.

Q: If you had to describe your music in three or four words, what would you call it?

Emotional, indie, self-satisfying

Q: What are you songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

They’re just about my life.

Q: As an artist, how would you define SUCCESS?

Success, is perceived different in everyone’s eyes. For myself, it’s being able to support myself financially and comfortably. That takes a lot of discipline, and self-growth to achieve that.

Q: What do you think your “biggest break” or “greatest opportunity” has been so far in your musical career?

I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to write and work with some really cool artists in Asia such as Vanness Wu, Park Jun Min, Jeff Miyahara, Jae Chong, and Aziatix. I think my biggest break has been just to be recognized worthy by these artists and producers.
