WWE: The Ascension
Someone behind the scenes at WWE loves the name “The Ascension” because it’s been floating around in one form or another since the FCW days. When NXT went from a web-only mix of The JBL & Cole Show and its old reality competition format to it’s current incarnation on Hulu and now WWE Network, the gimmick was being worked by Conor O’Brian and Kenneth Cameron. Cameron punched a cop and was released (and is now TNA’s Bram), while O’Brian worked solo for a while before getting a new partner in Rick Victor.
Their names were stylished to Konnor & Viktor to go along with their schtick, which has always been unclear. With Cameron, their entrance consisted of smoke and blue lighting, making them seem otherworldly. In their current form, they’re more heavy metal bad asses, but for some reason they like heiroglyphics.
Now, something else has happened. Maybe we’ll find out why they look like the Age of Apocalypse versions of Hawk & Animal. But nothing about their look has ever been explained, so I’m not holding my breath.
Then, there’s the content of the promo…
Viktor: We dine on destruction, and feast upon fear. Brutality is our business.
Konnor: AND WE’RE OPEN ALL NIGHT LONG
Viktor: Set ’em up…
Konnor: And we’ll knock ’em down
Viktor: We are
Unison: THE ASCENSION
Konnor: Welcome…to the Wasteland.
This duo are a decent ring workers who have swung many at Full Sail Live, where NXT is taped, to their side with their beatdowns and character tics. With the main roster tag scene in need of some fresh blood – The Ascension could make quite a splash.
What do you think about ‘The Ascension’? Do you think their presence on the main roster will shake up the Tag Team division? Send your thoughts and comments below.
