‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff ‘Cobalt’ Coming Together
The long-awaited companion series to “The Walking Dead” is now busy casting. According to The Hollywood Reporter on Dec. 4, Cliff Curtis will portray Sean Cabrera, a teacher who is described as a good man trying to do the right thing by everyone in his life, including his son and ex-wife.
Fans of “Gang Related” will recognize him as Javier Acosta, and he has starred in several films such as “Whale Rider” and “Blow.” His new character is described as a version of Rick Grimes in the new pilot from Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson.
The female lead hasn’t been cast yet into the role of Nancy Tomkins, who works as a guidance counselor at the same school as Cabrera. Frank Dillane will play her son Nick, who battled drug problems in the past, and Alycia Debnam-Carey will play her daughter, Ashley. UPI states that Debnam-Carey is best known from the Australian docu-series “Next Stop Hollywood” and stars as Kaitlyn in the movie “Into the Storm.” Dillane portrayed Tom Riddle Jr. in “Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince” and plays Owen Coffin in the Ron Howard film “In the Heart of the Sea,” scheduled for release in 2015.
This series will be set in the same world as “The Walking Dead” although in a different location outside of Georgia. Undead Walking reports that there has been talk about filming taking place in Pennsylvania, although nothing is definite at this time. Since both shows will be taking place in basically the same time frame of the zombie apocalypse and the locations are fairly close, perhaps “The Walking Dead” characters will make an appearance or two on the new series.
Kirkman and Erickson will also executive produce along with Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert. Erickson is the showrunner with Adam Davidson directing. Now that “Colbalt” has cast its male lead and two other roles, who would you like to see as the female lead? Leave your comments and opinions below.
