Iggy Azalea Is Leading The Packing For The 42nd AMAs
Iggy Azalea is quickly becoming a household name burning up the Billboard charts with her infectious “Fancy” featuring Charlie XCX and “Black Widow” with Rita Ora. Azalea who also modeled before she was a hip-hop star has become a hip hop sensation with the help of many other established artists. Azalea who hails from Mullumbimby, New South Wales Australia, came over to the United States when she was sixteen and hasn’t stopped doing music since. Azaleas biggest hit to date remains to be “Fancy” but other collaborations with other artists are quickly gaining momentum on the Billboard Hot 100 such as her latest with Rita Ora, “Black Widow.”
Azalea received the most nominations for this year’s American Music Awards garnering a total of six nods for Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Single of the Year, Favorite Female Artist pop/rock, Favorite Artist rap/hip-hop and Favorite Album rap/hip-hop. Azalea has recently had a very public feud with Snoop Dogg that started with a photo by Dogg comparing Azalea to an albino and a comparison to the main characters in the film “White Chicks.”
The standoff only lasted a few days and ended with Dogg’s apology and Azalea accepting. So where does the appeal come from for Azalea? It would be fitting to say that she has a mixture of fans who appreciate the finer things in life. A lot of Azalea fans are also devoted to Nicki Minaj as well. Azalea has come a long way in her career but she hasn’t reached everything that she wants to do in the business just yet.
Azalea might try her hand in acting as she already has some experience in the “Black Widow” video long side Ora. She recently purchased Selena Gomez’s mansion in Tarzana CA with her LA Laker beau Nick Young for a whopping $3,450,000. She also has been announced recently that she will be in Las Vegas for New Years with a concert at Dria’s Nightclub at The Cromwell on the Las Vegas Strip with the performance with a rooftop view of the spectacular Strip Fireworks show.
Azalea broke a record set by the Beatles in May to hold number one and two position on the Billboard Hot 100 with both debuts on the singles chart. “Black Widow” has become her third top 5 hit, and her latest single “Beg For It,” which will be featured on the Reclassified album which is a re-package of her debut The New Classic which drops Nov. 24.
The American Music Awards will broadcast live, Sunday, Nov. 23 on ABC. Check local listings for times.
