WWE: CM Punk Goes From Wrestling To Marvel

Former WWE superstar CM Punk aka Phil Brooks has long been regarded by fans as the “Best in the world” – at wrestling that is. He’ll now have an opportunity to master another trade. Marvel announced today on their website that the “Straight Edge Superstar” will pen the upcoming “Thor Annual” #1. He will tag team with “Chew” artist Rob Guillory in what will be the Marvel debut for both of them.

This will be quite a comic debut for CM Punk as heelaborates in an interview with Marvel:

Like, technically this is my first comic book writing assignment, and I’m writing Thor, which is pretty heavy. It’s not an independent. It’s not an offshoot story. I’m writing Thor, one of the Marvel heavy hitters. They make movies about him now, if you didn’t know.

Thor has gone through a significant alteration recently (read about him losing Mjolnir and his clothes). Longtime Thor writer Jason Aaron who happens to be a friend of Punk’s, has offered advice for the new writer.

But I think it helps me, just knowing him, and the degree of being comfortable with him and being able to e-mail him and say, “Hey, how ‘bout I do this?” And really, the only thing he said to me was, “I need a story about young Thor. Tell me what you think.” And the first idea that popped into my mind was the first thing I pitched to him, and he said he loved it, so we’re running with it.

“Thor Annual” #1 will hit comic shops in February 2015. Are you interested in seeing CM Punk’s comic debut? Let me know in the comments below and on Twitter
