WWE: WWE Considering Changing Plans For Brock Lesnar Title Run
There is a lot of talk backstage in the WWE right now about Brock Lesnar. Ever since he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, he has been largely absent from television. He won the belt from John Cena at “SummerSlam” and defended it against him at “Night of Champions.” He has been gone ever since and is not scheduled back until the end of the year. PWS reported on Friday that the WWE is now considering re-signing Lesnar after his current deal ends for one last babyface push.
At the current time, Lesnar is expected to defend his title against John Cena at the “Royal Rumble” in January and then against Roman Reigns at “Wrestlemania 31” in March. Those are the only two pay-per-view appearances left that is currently scheduled for Lesnar. If the WWE wants him for more appearances, it will cost them a great deal of money and the thought right now is that Lesnar is not worth the extra money.
It isn’t that Lesnar isn’t a star, it is just that “Battleground,” a July pay-per-view without Brock Lesnar received 31,000 buys while “Night of Champions” with Lesnar brought in 30,000 buys, making it look like his appearances are not bringing in the extra money they spend on bringing him in for extra dates. However, the problem is that Lesnar losing to Roman Reigns won’t mean as much if fans know Lesnar is leaving after “Wrestlemania 31.”
As a result, the WWE is considering another part time contract for Brock Lesnar to return and get one final big babyface push after he loses the title. Of course, there is also the problem that a Brock Lesnar loss to Roman Reigns won’t mean as much because the only person Lesnar fought since winning the title was John Cena. For Reigns to get a big bump from the win, Lesnar should have been tearing through everyone in the WWE.
If things don’t work out well with Brock Lesnar, the WWE also has a Plan B. That plan would see John Cena actually beat Brock Lesnar at “Royal Rumble” and then he would lose the title to Roman Reigns at “Wrestlemania 31.” Of course, that would completely ruin the entire fact that Brock Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s streak and make the five month Lesnar title reign mean nothing.
