Christian Bale Exits Out Of Steve Jobs Biopic
Christian Bale has officially walked away from the role of Apple founder Steve Jobs. According to a Nov. 4 article by Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actor concluded after much deliberation and conflicting feelings that he was not right for the part.
The news came only days after Seth Rogen agreed to star opposite Bale as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. It was an unlikely casting choice that caught many by surprise, maybe even the film’s lead. No official offer had yet been made to Rogen so it is yet unclear how Bale’s departure may affect that, and future, casting of the film.
The film, titled “Jobs,” is being written by Oscar-winner Aaron Sorkin and is based on the source material from Walter Isaacson’s biography aptly titled “Steve Jobs.” Sorkin announced that the script’s structure would be written as three long passages, each taking place backstage at Apple’s renowned product launch events. “Jobs” is set to be directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle, most widely-known for 2008’s “Slumdog Millionaire,” and will be produced by Scott Rudin, Guymon casady and Mark Gordon.
The news of Bale’s exit marks the latest blow for “Jobs” as he is the second high-profile actor to turn down the offer from Sony to play the role. Leonardo DiCapriowas also in line to play the tech wizard but decided to move on to co-star alongside Tom Hardy in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s (“Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance”) next film, “The Revenant,” about an 1820’s frontiersman who sets out for revenge on the group of men who left him for dead after a horrific bear mauling.
