Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard has said that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao need to fight once and for all.
According to ESPN, Leonard said, “It’s more than just the money. Because the money will be there. It’s the legacy.”
“They should fight,” Leonard added. “Now they’re leaning more towards Mayweather. Because at first it was ‘We don’t know who’s going to win the fight’ — like Tommy Hearns and I, like Hagler and I, like Duran and I. But that fight would be huge.”
Meanwhile, Pacquiao fights next month against Chris Algieri in Macau. And Mayweather has two fights left on his six-fight deal.
“I think fans are starving for excitement,” Leonard said. “Fans are starving for competition, evenly matched fights.”
A few days ago, Pacquiao said that Mayweather needs to “fear God.”
“I still feel sorry for him because he acts like an uneducated person. It’s pitiful to me and I’m praying for him. He should fear God,” Pacquiao told Agence France-Presse.
Before that, he slammed Mayweather on Twitter after Mayweather admitted that parts of his show “All Access” were staged in order to promote his rematch with Marcos Maidana.
He wrote: “.@FloydMayweather’s testimony to the commission on All Access’ authenticity tells me everything I need to know about his desire to fight me.”
Mayweather countered with a photo of Pacquiao lying face-down after getting knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.
