or 3 cast and plot may still be just rumors, but there seems to be more than enough coincidence to make them potential spoilers. You may have noticed the words “Thor will return” at the end of The Dark World, in the same vein as the James Bond series, and with the success of Marvel Studios’ series, there is no doubt that a sequel will happen.
We will have to wait until after Avengers: Age of Ultron for Thor’s next solo outing though, allegedly in 2017.
Something else which may change the course of events for the next film was the ending to The Dark World, where Thor literally turns down the rule of Asgard and accidentally gives it to Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Where was Odin (Anthony Hopkins) when that happened? Could this result in Thor becoming unworthy to wield Mjolnir?
According the recent Marvel Comics plot twists, we could see Chris Hemsworth stepping down and possibly a new female Thor taking his place by the end as a nod to the new canon.
The result of Thor’s decisions in The Dark World certainly offer clues as to new Thor 3 cast additions. What seem like official Thor 3 plot details have been dropped supporting the theory.
“Essentially, ‘Thor 3 Ragnarok’ sees Loki and the Fire demon Surtur march on Asgard. Thor manages to fight them off, but loses his famous hammer Mjolnir. Once he has dealt with the fire demon and his brother, however, he does not hesitate in dealing him once and for all – Thor rips his brother’s head off.”
When Thor defied orders and freed Loki to fight off Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), followed by his accidentally allowing Loki to take the throne in his stead, Odin could easily have changed his mind. According to the same sources, Thor apparently can’t be found for a while, possibly due to taking time out for Jane Foster. Combine this with the eventual promotion of Loki to Ragnarok, and the rumored end of Asgard, and Odin could see this as Thor’s fault entirely, stripping him of his powers.
The idea of Loki becoming Ragnarok doesn’t sync with “Civil War” comic book canon, which had the super villain actually being a clone of Thor.
This could end in the Thor 3 cast replacement of Jaimie Alexander’s Sif as Thor, while Hemsworth’s character is left to wander Earth as a mortal, theoretically “riding off into the sunset” with Jane. Sources claim that Natalie Portman might not be returning for the next film, so it’s unknown what might really happen to the Thor we know. The Avengers only used her picture, so there are ways around it.
Other possible additions to the Thor 3 cast are rumored to be Valkyrie, Beta Ray Bill, Ulik, Mangog, The Enchantress, and The Executioner.
What do you think might happen in Thor 3? Could the film be Chris Hemsworth’s final entry in the series?
