Is SSB4 A Disappointment?

Some fans are not happy with the final “Super Smash Bros 4” for Wii U and 3DS roster. With hopes of being available, a lot of enthusiasts were disappointed that Ridley won’t be playable. The space pirate is a fixture from the “Metroid” series and has appeared in previous games in the crossover fighting game franchise, including as a boss character in “Super Smash Bros. Brawl.”

Masahiro Sakurai previously commented that Ridley may have been too tough to add as a playable character due to slow speed. However, he did hint that the development team could have included the space pirate even if the fighter won’t be particularly effective. His statement lead fans to believe that Ridley could be a part of “Super Smash Bros 4” for Wii U and 3DS.

The recent full roster reveal did not mention anything about the nemesis to Samus, however. Instead, the crossover fighting game uses 49 other characters. While some fans simply expressed their disappointment, others blamed the development team for what they deemed to be poor selection of playable characters, especially when it comes to clones. A few characters on the roster have the same set of moves with only slight variations. Detractors believed that the character slots could have been used on someone completely new instead of those that play practically the same as existing members.

More loyal Ridley fans still believe that the space pirate will eventually end up in the fourth main installment of the series. Some are speculating that the popular character could be added as DLC. Others think that the space pirate could be unlocked by connecting the 3DS game to the Wii U.

Those loyal enthusiasts may have to wait for a long time to see if Ridley is added as a playable character. This is because “Super Smash Bros 4” for Wii U won’t be released until the holiday season while Nintendo has not yet revealed any plans in regards to the post-launch DLC support for the crossover fighting game.
