During Sony’s State of Play broadcast, developers Ember Labs revealed a sequel to Kena: Bridge of Spirits released in 2021. The reveal signaled a major return to the beautifully crafted world of Kena but in an even brilliant light.

In Scars of Kosmora, Kena returns older and more experienced. She is now a renowned Spirit Guide. Her journey leads her to the mysterious island of Kosmora. This island is rich with distinct cultures, untold histories, and lingering spiritual secrets. According to PlayStation Blog, Kena must delve into a forgotten form of Spirit Guiding. This form relies on Alchemy and elemental mastery for survival. The developers aim to take the fresh new narrative direction promising emotional depth and world building that expands on the themes players loved from the first game. Moreover, giving Kena a chance to evolve both personally and mechanically.

Highlighted in the trailer is Elemental spirit companions, which are a big part of this new world. These spiritual creatures travel alongside you, grow over time, and unlock new powers as your bond with them deepens. Each of these companions is tied to a specific element. They are connected to other spirits that exist throughout the world. The trailer revealed one of the companions but as you travel throughout the new world more will secrets will be discovered.

With backing from PlayStation Studios, Ember Lab is building a world that feels broader yet more deliberate. Early impressions suggest Kosmora isn’t just bigger. It’s more varied in culture, aesthetic, and lore. This promises regions that feel distinct and alive. As Ember Lab continues to share about its evolving cast, elemental systems, and the enigmatic island of Kosmora, players new and returning have plenty to anticipate. So stay tuned for more information and updates.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches on PlayStation 5 and PC later this year.
