What’s the matter, it seems like you saw a ghost

Spyglass Media Group seems like it has found its distributor, as they’re teaming up with Paramount Pictures to release the horror sequel in 2021. The franchise was previously directed by the late Wes Craven but previously the movie also has found their directors in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett who helmed Ready or Not.

Prior to production and casting beginning there were initially some confusion on whether the fifth one would be a sequel or serve as the franchise’s reboot but confusions were muffled after David Arquette signed on to reprise his role as Sheriff of Woodsboro, Dewey Riley. As of this writing, he’s the only member of the original cast to sign on for the movie. However, Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox have yet to sigh but are in talks to reprise their roles as Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers respectively.

When it comes to the plot there hasn’t been too much, if anything to reference since the movie is in its early stages of production. You could only wonder if the filmmakers may write-in a bold move in killing off a main character of the original trio or having one serve as the villain anything is possible when you watch too many scary movies. Either way, it has been reported that Campbell is impressed with the directors’ vision while they honor Craven’s original appeal to the franchise.

Scream 5 has James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick signed on to co-write the screenplay. Kevin Williamson who penned the first, second, and fourth movies will return to the project as an executive producer alongside Chad Villella (Radio Silence). Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak will also join the project as producers. More casting announcements are expected to follow in the coming weeks as well as the production with various projects have been allowed to continue filming. Principal photography on Scream 5 will reportedly begin in the late summer of the year in Wilmington, North Carolina.

There is no official release date other than the known aim to be released in the year 2021.
